Dear Resident:

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning in effect from noon Monday, January 26 until 6:00pm Tuesday. In preparation, early this morning, I activated the Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM).

In advance of the storm, the OEM has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately. No additional debris may be placed curbside until further notice by the OEM. In addition, there will be no curbside recycling on Tuesday.

At this time, we remind residents that you are required, by town ordinance, to remove your cars from the roadways when the road is snow covered. This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and also protects your cars from damage from other motorists.

It bears repeating that communication is critical during weather emergencies. If you have not done so already, please visit our “Communications for Residents” section on the Township Website www.marlboro-nj.gov/resident-communications.html to ensure that your home and cell phones are registered for Police reverse 9-1-1 calls and text message updates. You can also find us on Facebook www.facebook.com/marlborotownship.nj and Twitter@MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page.

Please take a moment to locate and review the “Plan and Prepare” brochure sent to your home with the Superstorm Sandy Anniversary letter. The brochure may also be found here http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/storm/PLAN_AND_PREPARE_2014.pdf Emergency preparedness information as well as important phone numbers can all be found in the brochure.

We have been in contact with JCP&L and have been assured that they have activated their storm restoration plan and have additional line and forestry crews on stand-by to respond should outages occur. Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity.

The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1. We will continue to update the public through email, reverse 9-1-1 and social media, as necessary. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Mayor Jon Hornik
