Dear Resident:

The Governor has declared a State of Emergency in anticipation of the blizzard.   As conditions worsen throughout the afternoon, we urge you to be off of the roads by dark and to remain at home until the State of Emergency has been lifted.

This blizzard brings with it high winds and a chance of power outages.  Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com.  Immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity.

In the event of a power outage lasting more than 24 hours and after OEM has determined that the roadways are safe for travel, the Marlboro Recreation Center will opened as a warming and charging station for medical devices, phones and other electronic equipment.  Continue to follow these communications for updates regarding local road conditions.  OEM will send a notification once the roads are safe for travel and the center has been opened.

If you have not done so, please take a moment to locate and review the “Plan and Prepare” brochure sent to your home with the Superstorm Sandy Anniversary letter.   The brochure may also be found here http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/storm/PLAN_AND_PREPARE_2014.pdf Emergency preparedness information as well as important phone numbers can all be found in the brochure. We suggest that you print it out and keep it easily accessible.

In advance of the storm, the Marlboro OEM has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately.  No additional debris may be placed curbside until further notice by the OEM.  Recycling pickup is suspended Tuesday and Wednesday.   Residents are reminded, per Township ordinance, to remove vehicles and all other items from the roadways when the road is snow covered.  This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles.

The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100.  For emergencies, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

You can find us on Facebook  www.facebook.com/marlborotownship.nj and Twitter@MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1.  Please stay safe, make sure your cell phones are charged and your flashlight has fresh batteries.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Mayor Jon Hornik
