Storm Juno #4

Dear resident,

I want to thank everyone for their cooperation during the storm.  Although we thankfully did not receive as much snow as expected, approximately 6 to 8 inches fell and some additional accumulation is expected throughout the afternoon.  We are still under a Winter Storm Warning until 3:00pm this afternoon.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) employees pre-treated the roadways, plowed throughout the night and will continue to plow, salt and sand.    We ask that you remain home and off the roadways to allow DPW and First Responders clear access.
The Marlboro Department of Public Works (DPW) provides the following snow removal tips:

  • Marlboro DPW salts and plows 200 miles of roads. It takes DPW and contractors approximately 10 hours to make one pass around the town for an average 4” snowfall. Larger snowfall amounts increase the time accordingly.

  • Do not shovel your driveway until the snow plow has made at least one pass on your street. This will help to reduce the amount of snow at the bottom of your driveway, although some is inevitable.

  • Do not put snow from your vehicles or your driveway onto the street.  This creates icy and dangerous conditions as the snow melts and refreezes. If you use a professional snow removal company, please ask for their cooperation.

  • If snow must be placed in the street, place it as close to the curb as possible to the left of your driveway when facing your house.  This deters the plows from pushing the snow back into your driveway.

Complete snow removal facts and guidelines can be found at http://www.marlboro-nj.gov/Marlboro_recycling_Calendar_2015.pdf#page=13

The volunteer Fire companies remind us to remove snow that may obstruct fire hydrants near our properties.  Fighting fires becomes even more difficult in freezing conditions and we need to do all we can to remove obstacles in order to maximize response time.

Wednesday’s recycling collection for Zone 2 will take place as originally scheduled.  In addition, recycling collection cancelled today for Zone 1 will have a makeup day on Monday, February 2.  Please have your recycling curbside by 7am..  For information regarding recycling pick-up, please call DPW at (732) 536-0188.

If you live near senior citizens or residents with special needs, please take a moment to check in on them. As always, the Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.

Thank you in advance for cooperation and patience.

Mayor Jon Hornik
