Dear resident,

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of bitterly cold wind chills and dangerous winds moving into our area this weekend. Wind chill values could reach life threatening levels as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero.

Please take a moment review the following as cold spells of this magnitude can quickly lead to frostbite and hypothermia for anyone who does not take proper precautions:

* If you must go outside, wear gloves, hat and several layers of clothing.
* Make sure your home and car have plenty of fuel.
* Run water at a trickle and keep cabinet doors open to prevent pipes from freezing; especially those exposed or along an outside wall.
* Never use a stove or oven to heat your home or use an open flame to melt frozen pipes as a house fires often results from such practices.
* Space heaters and other secondary sources of heat should never be left unattended, placed near flammable materials such as bedding or curtains, or used in unventilated areas.
* Check tires pressure and your car battery and be sure your car has a winter safety kit that includes a blanket, warm clothes and gloves in case your car becomes stranded.
* Bring your pets inside and know their limits to the cold.
* Please check on elderly neighbors and those with special needs.

Please take a moment to review all the STORM SAFETY  tips available on the Township Website.  We remind you that the Marlboro Division of Police is available 24/7 and can be reached by calling 732 536-0100.  In an emergency, always dial 911.

Stay safe and warm,
Mayor Jon Hornik
