Dear Resident:

The Storm Warning remains in effect from midnight tonight to 6am Friday.  This has been a long, snowy winter for everyone and we appreciate your cooperation as we brace for Winter Storm Pax.

The Marlboro Department of Public Works (DPW) provides the following snow removal tips:

  • Marlboro DPW salts and plows 200 miles of roads. It takes DPW and contractors approximately 10 hours to make one pass around the town for an average 4” snowfall. Larger snowfall amounts increase the time accordingly.
  • Town Ordinance requires that you remove your cars from the street when the roads are snow covered.  This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and also protects your cars from damage from other motorists.
  • Do not shovel your driveway until the snow plow has made at least one pass on your street. This will help to reduce the amount of snow at the bottom of your driveway, although some is inevitable.
  • Do not put snow from your vehicles or your driveway onto the street.  This creates icy and dangerous conditions as the snow melts and refreezes. If you use a professional snow removal company, please ask for their cooperation.
  • If snow must be placed in the street, place it as close to the curb as possible to the left of your driveway when facing your house.  This deters the plows from pushing the snow back into your driveway.

Winds following the storm may cause power outages especially with heavy snow and ice on the branches. It is important that every customer without power reports their outage directly to JCP&L. This allows JCP&L to isolate outages for more effective repair.  Please call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) or visit the JCP&L 24/7 Power Center. You can also obtain a summary as well as estimated times of restoration of any current outages by clicking on the "MyTown" link on the JCP&L 24/7 Power Center outage maps page www.firstenergycorp.com/mytown. You may also report power outages on the free smartphone app available at www.jcp-l.com.

Assume all downed wires are alive and dangerous and report immediately to JCP&L or the Marlboro Police Department. Never attempt to remove tree branches from wires.
The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100.  For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.  We will continue to update the public through email, reverse 9-1-1 and social media, as necessary.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Mayor Jon Hornik
