Dear Resident,

The National Weather Service has issued a weather advisory for our area. Bitter cold and strong winds are expected Thursday and Friday.  Snow, wintry mix and freezing rain are possible at various times through Saturday.  Please keep an eye on local weather conditions and leave plenty of time to reach your destination.

Please take a moment review the following precautions:

* If you must go outside, wear gloves, hat and several layers of clothing.
* Make sure your home and car have plenty of fuel.
* Run water at a trickle and keep cabinet doors open to prevent pipes from freezing; especially those exposed or along an outside wall.
* Never use a stove or oven to heat your home or use an open flame to melt frozen pipes as a house fires often results from such practices.
* Space heaters and other secondary sources of heat should never be left unattended, placed near flammable materials such as bedding or curtains, or used in unventilated areas.
* Check tires pressure and your car battery and be sure your car has a winter safety kit that includes a blanket, warm clothes and gloves in case your car becomes stranded.
* Bring your pets inside and know their limits to the cold.
* Please check on elderly neighbors and those with special needs.

Please see the TIPS from JCP&L to protect your family and home from the cold.   We remind you that power outages should be reported directly to JCP&L using one of the many methods available. You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report your outage, click here to report your outage online or here for text messaging.  Outage information is also available on JCP&L’s 24/7 Power Center Maps and on the JCP&L Facebook page. Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity.

Please take a moment to review all the STORM SAFETY  tips available on the Township Website.  As always, the Marlboro Police are available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.

Stay safe and warm,
Mayor Jon Hornik
