Winter Storm Jonas Update #5

Saturday - 1/23/2016 – 9:00 pm

Dear Residents:

The snow continues to fall and it is expected that when Jonas leaves our area at about 1:00 Sunday morning, we will have 2 feet of snow on the ground.

Snow removal crews have been working around the clock to maintain the roadways and allow for safe passage of emergency vehicles.  Blowing winds will quickly cause the roads to get recovered and may appear as if they have not yet been plowed.  Please be assured that DPW pre-treated the roads prior to the snow, has been plowing continuously since 3am Saturday morning and all public roadways have received at least one pass.   DPW will continue to plow throughout the night and Sunday.

As you begin to remove snow from your driveways, we suggest you review page 13 of your Recycling Calendar for Snow Removal Facts and Guidelines.

We remind you that the Marlboro Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has suspended all curbside brush pickup immediately, effective until further notice.  All vehicles other items, including portable basketball hoops, must be removed from the roadways when the road is snow covered.  This allows the plows to clear more effectively, and reduces the likelihood of damage to vehicles.  Please check with your private garbage company for trash pickup suspensions. Finally, please be mindful to clear snow from around fire hydrants so that they are accessible to emergency personnel should the need arises.

Power outages should be reported directly to JCP&L using one of their many methods available.  You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), or visit www.firstenergycorp.com to explore the many ways to report an outage, including Facebook and text messaging.  For easier reporting, please familiarize yourself with the methods and register in advance of a power outage. Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity.  Extra caution should be used if downed lines are tangled in trees or other debris.

The Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100.  For emergencies, do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

You can find us on FaceBook  and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page. We will continue to update the public through social media, email, and reverse 9-1-1.

We ask that you stay off the roads to allow Police, DPW and First Responders clear access.   Thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance.

Mayor Jon Hornik
