Electric Vehicle Charging Stations – Permits Required

There have been a surge of electric cars being sold throughout NJ. An EV charging station supplies electricity to recharge electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) to minimize the charging time.

Just like any other electrical installation, the charging systems for electric vehicles are required to comply with the construction codes adopted by the State of New Jersey in the Uniform Construction Code (UCC).

If you would like to install an electric car charger at your home please contact us for the permit paperwork. We can mail it to you or you can stop by and pick it up. If you have additional questions please contact the building department at 732-536-0200 x 1800.

REMINDER TO CALL FOR FINAL INSPECTIONS

Once your building permit has been approved, you can begin construction. However, don't forget the critical step of scheduling the required inspections. Inspections are required before you cover or conceal any work that's been completed to ensure that the work you've done meets the permit requirements. Depending on your project type and size, you may need to schedule a few inspections.

Call for final inspections before you use your newly permitted item(s) including Generators, Solar Panels, Pools (both in ground and above)

When installed are already powered up and please call for a final inspection for your safety before they are used.

A certificate of approval is always required in order to use your newly permitted item(s). If you have any questions or need assistance please contact the building department at 732-536-0200 x 1800
