Township Update

Dear Resident,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the last few days of August.  Please note the following town updates:

  • Emergency Brush Collection Underway-   In response to the recent storm, the Department of Public Works (DPW) has begun emergency storm debris removal (brush only). All debris must be placed curbside no later than 7:00 am Monday, August 10. As this collection is town-wide and not by zone, it is anticipated to take approximately four weeks. Note, however, that once Public Works clears your street, they will not return and your brush must be removed by private contractor or be brought to the recycling center. For the complete regulations click HERE.

  • General Election – Part 1 in our series based upon information disseminated by the Monmouth County Clerk was sent via email and posted on our website HERE.

  • Greenwood Road Closure - Please be advised, on Monday (8/31) through Wednesday (9/2) from 7am-5pm, construction crews will be installing drainage pipe on Greenwood Road between Thomas Lane and Ticetown Road.  The scheduled time frame for this work is weather-dependent, and every effort will be made to minimize any inconvenience to residents during this time.  The road will be closed during construction, detours in place and Police Officers will be on site to assist motorists and residents.  Road Construction notices can be found on our website HERE.

  • COVID Testing for Monmouth County Residents – Monmouth County testing center locations in Freehold Boro, Long Branch, Asbury Park, Neptune, Red Bank and Keansburg.  No appointment needed and you do NOT have to be symptomatic.  For location, days and hours click HERE.

  • Operation SOS (Senior Outreach Sacks) DONATIONS REQUESTED – The seniors in our community face special challenges during this pandemic.  They are often isolated from family, friends, and the socialization and physical activity provided by the Recreation programs.  The Marlboro Recreation Senior Department created surprise care packages to let them know that they are missed and not forgotten. The bags were filled with fun, delicious and useful items.  It has been more meaningful to them than we could have imagined.  So far packages have been delivered to 125 randomly chosen from the pool of registered seniors and we are asking for your help to continue.

We welcome donations of new, unused, and individually wrapped items such as:

  • Businesses – Logo items welcome such as pens, note pads, stress balls for arthritis relief, note pads, tissues, nail polish, nail files, lip balm/chap stick, hot cold packs, sample size toiletries, face masks, mini hand sanitizers, puzzle books, etc.
  • Residents – Snack foods, hard candies, chocolate, protein shakes (ensure type), soft granola bars, small toiletry or grooming items, art supplies, etc.

Donations can be dropped off at the Recreation Center Monday – Friday from 9am to       4pm.  Thank you, in advance, for your assistance and generosity.  Please direct questions    to the Recreation Senior Division at 732-617-0100 ext. 1333.

Domestic Volunteer Response Team (DVRT) – Marlboro Township Police is recruiting volunteers to serve on the DVRT.  In affiliation with 180 Turning Lives Around (180), and with the assistance of the response team volunteers, the Marlboro Police Department continues to make this free, 24/7 confidential service available to victims of domestic violence in the aftermath of a highly emotional and traumatic experience. 180 will be conducting the mandatory virtual 40-hour training course for new DVRT volunteers October 6 - 29, Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays, 6:00pm-9:30pm, via Zoom. To request an application and for more information, click HERE or call 732-536-0100 ext. 1079.

Census 2020 – The results of the 2020 Census will help determine how hundreds of billions of dollars in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community, no matter the size, no matter the location and influence highway planning, construction and grants that impact your commute. It impacts school funding and to provide housing for older adults.  If you have not yet done so, respond by phone, mail or on-line by visiting https://my2020census.gov It only takes a few minutes and will allow the door-to-door, phone and mail requests to direct their resources elsewhere.

Marlboro Farmers Market – Our market is open every Sunday from 9am to 2pm.  Fruits, vegetables, cheese, meat, polish specialties, gelato, breads, baked goods, guacamole, dog treats, dips, oils, nuts, and more.  Located on Route 520 just west of 79 and across from the WaWa.  Parking on site, handicapped parking at street level.  For more, visit the website https://www.marlboro-nj.gov/farmers-market  and Facebook and Instagram @MarlboroFarmersMarket

Have a great weekend.
