Registrar Of Vital Statistics
The Local Registrar of Vital Statistics is appointed by the Mayor and reports to the State Registrar in Trenton. The Registrar maintains and administers records of vital statistics, issues marriage licenses, civil union licenses, birth certificates, death certificates, burial permits, and disinterment permits.

MARRIAGE LICENSE – LICENSE TO BE WED:
The marriage license application process is by appointment only. It is advisable to initiate the process at least a month prior to the event.
RAISED SEAL – CERTIFIED COPY:
The Registrar can provide raised seal certified copies of marriage certificates, civil union certificates, death certificates, and birth certificates, for official proof of events that have occurred within the municipality. This is not an on-the-spot service and can take as much as a few weeks. Only a person who has a direct relationship to the record is eligible to apply for a certified copy.
DISINTERMENT PERMIT:
Only a New Jersey Licensed Funeral Director can initiate this process. Receiving an approved disinterment is a multi-step process and requires an appointment.

NOTE:
New Jersey raised seal certified copies such as birth certificates, death certificates, marriage certificates, and civil union certificates can be obtained in the NJ Municipality where the event occurred as well as from the State Bureau of Vital Statistics.
