DPW Fall Leaf Collection Message #1
October 22, 2020

Dear Resident:

The Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin LEAF ONLY COLLECTION next week by zone according to the schedule published in the recycling calendar mailed to your home and available on the Township HERE.

Please note that this is the only curbside, piled leaf collection of 2020.  The second and final leaf collection of 2020 must be placed curbside in biodegradable paper bags. For details on this schedule and policy change, please review the recycling letter from Mayor Hornik HERE.

To avoid flooding and to keep streets safe for pedestrians and vehicles, do not place leaves in the roadway or near sewer drains.  The zone by zone LEAF ONLY (piled curbside OR in Biodegradable paper bags) pickup weeks are:

ZONES

WEEK OF *

Zones 2 & 4

October 26

Zones 1 & 8

November 2

Zones 6 & 7

November 9

Zones 3 & 5

November 16

*Placed curbside by 7am of 1st pickup day

Brush collection is complete until 2020.  No brush may be curbside and brush and leaves may NOT be commingled.   For the safety of all residents, please note the following regulations:

  • Leaves are to be placed curbside (not in the roadway, but on your property near the road) by 7:00 am on the first day of the scheduled pickup week free of brush or other debris. For the safety of pedestrians and motorists leaves should not be placed at the curb earlier than one week prior to the first scheduled collection date.
    • Wet leaves create a slippery surface similar to driving on ice.
    • Do not park on piles of leaves. Dry leaf piles are a fire threat. Additionally, DPW cannot collect the leaves if they are blocked by cars.
    • Please do not place leaves near sewer drains. If you have a sewer inlet on or near your property, please take a moment to ensure the drain is clear and free from debris. With just a few minutes a month you can help reduce flooding and keep our waterways healthy! #adopt-a-drain
  • Weather permitting; it generally takes approximately one week to complete each zone. Once a street has been completed, the DPW will not return to that street. If you miss your zone’s scheduled pickup see below for recycling center guidelines, you can bag your leaves for the second pickup, or arrange for a private contractor.

Leaves commingled with brush, grass, rocks, stumps, construction debris, fence posts, etc., trash or recyclables will not be collected. Landscapers or residents placing debris for collection in an unauthorized manner shall be required to remove the waste from the public right of way.

Brush and leaves are accepted at the Township Recycling Center throughout the year, free of charge. The hours of the Recycling Center are Monday and Wednesday 8:00-1:30 and Saturday 8:00-4:00.  Other items that may be dropped off at the Recycling Center are:

  • Electronics (TVs, computers, etc.) - No charge. No permit required.
  • Bulk Items - Free bulk Permit required and is available on line.

Recycling Guidelines are available on page 10 of the recycling calendar mailed to your home or online HERE.

Please note that all curbside collections are subject to rescheduling/cancellation by the Marlboro Office of Emergency Management.  Notifications of changes are made via email, social media and posted on the Township website.  Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep Marlboro streets safe and clean.

Robert Miller, Superintendent of Public Works
