Dear Neighbor,
It is with deep concern that I have been made aware of reported incidents of bullying and racism in our schools. I want to state, as I have many times before, that we are a proudly multicultural and inclusive town, and racism in any form is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I will be reaching out to the Marlboro School Board and the Acting Superintendent to discuss what steps are being taken to address this problem in our schools.
In February of 2018, the Police Department and the Mayor’s office announced the Citizen Reporting Initiative ‘See Something. Say Something® We Will Do Something’. If you witness an incident, whether verbal or physical, I ask you to be proactive. Do Not Hesitate. Make the school administration aware and, in conjunction, immediately contact the Marlboro Police at 732-536-0100. Should you wish to report an incident anonymously, call the Marlboro Tip Line at 888-536-1010. If you feel that your own safety or the safety of the public is at risk, and you are able to, please dial 911.
In my communications from Town Hall, there is always one common thread – that we come together in times of adversity and respect our neighbors. People of many ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds choose Marlboro as a premier place to live, work and raise a family, and this is something we celebrate. It is what makes us strong and contributes to the very rich fabric of this great community.
It is with determination and without equivocation that we declare instances of bias and intolerance unwelcome in this community. Furthermore, let it be clear that any crimes committed in this regard will be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law. As a community, we stand together.
Yours in community,
Mayor Jon Hornik
