Memorial Day Events

Dear Resident,

Town Hall Municipal Offices and the Recycling Center will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.  Our Police Department is open 24/7 and can be reached at 732-536-0100.  Emergencies dial 911.

Our Veterans and Volunteers Committee has organized two Memorial Day events to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.  We are also pleased to share that the American Veterans Travelling Tribute will be coming to our area this weekend.  Please read on for more:

Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony - Sunday, May 26 at 9:30am we will gather in front of Town Hall at the Veterans Memorial. This is a short ceremony appropriate for all ages.  Light refreshments to follow.

Freehold Memorial Day Parade - Monday, May 27 Marlboro Township officials will be marching in the Freehold Memorial Day parade as they celebrate their 150th anniversary, making them one of the oldest parades in the nation. We invite everyone to line the parade route for this historic annual event.  For information on the parade, parking and road closures, please visit http://www.freeholdmemorialdayparade.com/

Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall – This weekend, the replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day wall will be coming to the East Brunswick Community Arts Center. The almost 400-foot-long Wall is an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., which contains every name etched on the original memorial. Accompanying the AVTT Wall will be Cost of Freedom tributes to every U.S. military action since World War I.  The opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 10 AM. Following the ceremony, the Wall will be open to visitors through Memorial Day, May 27, 2024. For details, please visit https://www.eastbrunswick.org/MemorialWall

Finally, as we enter the season of patriotic holidays, it is a good time for residents to inspect their American Flag for wear, fading or damage. If a Flag is unused or should be retired it may be brought to the American Flag Disposal bin located in Town Hall or the flag box at the Marlboro Firehouse.  Both are available all year.  The Town Hall bin was built and donated by Marlboro resident and US Navy Veteran, William Waple.  Marlboro Boy Scout Troop 86 collects the flags and arranges the ceremony to properly honor the flags that are no longer in service.

I hope to see you at our Memorial Day events.  Have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

Mayor Jon Hornik
