Severe Weather /Storm Preparedness
Update #1

Dear Resident,

As the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued flood advisories for our area, is tracking storms Florence, Isaac, and Helene to our south, and we near the anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, we are reminded that severe weather has become the norm. At this time, the Atlantic storms are not expected to directly impact our area; but Marlboro’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) will continue to monitor the weather conditions.

September is Hurricane Preparedness Month and we are at the height of hurricane season, so if you have not done so, please take a few moments to ensure that you and your loved ones are ready should disaster strike. Assemble a preparedness kit with enough food and water for each person for five days. Do not forget those with special needs, the elderly, and pets. If you already have a preparedness kit, review the content to replace any items that have expired. I ask that you review the preparedness letter with links for both Marlboro and the NJ OEM HERE.

It bears repeating that having multiple lines of communication between the township and our residents is most important during emergencies. If you have not done so already, please visit the Township Website at www.marlboro-nj.gov  and register for and or all of the communication options available. Sign up for Township emails blasts, register both your home and cell phones for Police Emergency messages (most land lines do not work during a power outage) and follow us on Facebook www.facebook.com/marlborotownship.nj and Twitter @MarlboroTwp as well as my Facebook page.

We have been experiencing heavy rains which can cause already weakened trees to fall bringing with it downed power lines and outages. We remind you that power outages should be reported directly to JCP&L using one of their many methods available. You may call JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report your outage, click here to report your outage online or here for text messaging. Outage information is also available on JCP&L’s 24/7 Power Center Maps and on the JCP&L Facebook page. Please immediately report downed wires to JCP&L or the Marlboro Division of Police. Never go near a downed power line, even if you think it is no longer carrying electricity.

As always, the Marlboro Police Department is available 24 hours a day at (732) 536-0100. For emergencies, please do not hesitate to call 9-1-1.

For those that are observing Rosh Hashanah, I wish you L’Shana Tova. To all, stay safe. We will update you as needed.
