RE: Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) Elections
Deadline to Submit ‘Expression of Interest’ Friday, October 15
Elections October 28
Dear Resident,
The terms for six (6) of TAC’s current Executive Committee members are coming to an end in a few weeks, and TAC has begun the process of considering candidates for TAC’s 2021/2022 Executive Committee! This will be a very exciting process for your teen, and one in which we recommend that ALL Township teens participate.
Every registered TAC member is eligible to participate in the October 28, 2021 election for the six open seats on the Executive Committee. The top six vote getters in the election will earn a seat on the Executive Committee. Considering the number of applicants in the past, if your teen runs s/he will likely have an excellent chance of becoming a member of TAC’s Executive Committee and sitting on the dais at meetings. As an Executive Committee member, s/he will be a part of the small group of teens that sets the agendas and presides over all TAC meetings, and will work more closely with TAC’s adult facilitators on improving their leadership skills.
This will be a terrific leadership opportunity for them, and one that will shed positive light on their college application one day soon.
TAC currently has over 2100 registered members and is open to all Marlboro Township teens between the ages of 12-18. TAC's members "DO GOOD!" in our community and in the process earn community service credits that will enhance their college applications, satisfy honor society requirements, and support scholarships applications, among other things. In 2008, TAC was granted official township-committee status by the Marlboro Township Council and each TAC member is thus a part of our Marlboro's government! With this, TAC members have a governmental voice and each of them is taught and encouraged to use it in furtherance of TAC's mission and goals, and to make Marlboro a better place to live, play, raise a family, and work. TAC is a dedicated group of teens who are developing valuable leadership skills and are committed to community service.
If your son or daughter is interested in becoming a member of TAC's Executive Committee, please encourage them to forward to TAC an “expression of interest” e-mail setting forth their interest, as well as their qualifications for the position. If applicable, please have them set forth with specificity their involvement and work with the Teen Advisory Committee to date, including their commitment to TAC’s various Do Good! initiatives. They may also set forth any other community service work and leadership programs/initiatives in which they are involved, especially if they haven’t been affiliated with TAC for that long.
All TAC members who submit an expression of interest will be placed on the ballot for an election to be held on Thursday October 28, 2021. Prior to the vote that night, each candidate will have an opportunity to briefly (1-2 minutes) address the TAC membership and set forth the reasons why she/he should be an Executive Committee member. This is a great way for them to improve their public speaking and persuasive reasoning skills too!
Please encourage your teen to email their “expression of interest” to
If your son/daughter is not as yet a TAC member, all they need to do is apply here: https://www.marlboro-nj.gov/register-to-receive-tac-email-notices.
Finally, please be reminded that simply going through the process itself is a tremendous learning and leadership development opportunity, even if ultimately they do not receive enough votes to win a seat.
Thank you in advance for encouraging them to take this important step.
