Coronavirus Update #39
Dear Resident,
Testing and Stats – New Jersey reported new daily positive test results of 1,261 for a statewide total of 157,815. Monmouth County has 8,103 cases with 455 in Marlboro.
Get Tested – Testing is now available to all New Jersey residents. There are 208 testing centers, public and private, throughout the state with various hours and requirements. Most require an appointment. You could have COVID19 and not know it, inadvertently passing it on. Increased testing is vital to reopening New Jersey. We have put together a list of local testing sites HERE, but please check the state website for additional sites, changes and additions HERE.
Businesses and Non-Profits –As your businesses and organizations continue planning to ensure the safety of your employees, customers and clients, and visitors, the state would like to know more about how the pandemic has impacted you and the challenges you may face in the future. Please visit https://covid19.nj.gov/forms/survey and complete this short survey.
Bulk Pickup – We remind you that bulk pickup will begin Monday by zone. Please do not place items curbside more than the weekend before your zone’s first scheduled day. For a list of accepted items and the schedule, please review the letter on line and linked HERE .
Lawn Debris Collection – Curbside lawn debris collection of brush and leaves has been completed until fall as we begin our summer road program. Any debris curbside must be removed immediately by a private contractor or brought to the recycling yard. The yard will be opened for cardboard, comingled paper, glass and other items recycled curbside as well as electronics, brush and leaves only. No bulk trash items of any kind will be accepted. In order to ensure the safety of our employees and adhere to the CDC‘s requirement of “social distancing”, Township staff will not be able to assist you with placing your items in any of our containers, and we may need to limit the amount of cars in the site at one time. Property Taxes – Second quarter property taxes grace period, extended by action of the Council and as per the Governor’s executive Order, must be received by Monday, June 1. On-line payments as well as a non-contact drop box is available. Details can be found on the letter from the Tax Collector HERE.
NEW LOCAL UPDATES
Fitness Centers –Recognizing that there is an urgent need to assist local businesses and spur the local economy, I am pleased to announce that this week I signed Executive Order 2020-5 allowing for Marlboro fitness centers to hold outdoor classes in accordance with Governor Murphy’s Executive Order 148. Marlboro Township Summer Camps – It is with great disappointment that I announce that we reached the difficult decision to cancel all 2020 summer camp programs. After months of carefully following and evaluating the evolving COVID -19 situation and awaiting State level guidance, while we continued to plan and prepare and hope for the best, the health and well-being of our campers, staff and community must come first. Those that registered for a summer camp program will receive an email and refunds will be automatically generated.
At this time, we are still awaiting State guidance regarding public pools so no decision has been made regarding the opening of the Marlboro Swim Club. We will, of course, keep you informed.
Township Activities – While we are saddened that summer camps will not be held, we have been planning other programs for residents of all ages to enjoy. Here are a few of them to look forward to:
- Mayor Hornik Virtual Bike and Stroll – In past years, we would celebrate National Trails Day on June 6, gathering at the Bicycle Hub on Route 79 to bike and stroll on the beautiful Henry Hudson Trail. I have always been proud and grateful that Marlboro has acres of green space, trails and parks for us to enjoy, but never more so than these last few months. This year I ask you to celebrate virtually with me. Take a picture of your family going for a bike ride or stroll on the trail or in your neighborhood and post on social media using the hashtag #MayorHornikBikeStroll or email your picture to

FLYER - Marlboro Farmers Market Opens June 7– We are pleased to announce that the Marlboro Farmers Market will open for the season on Sunday June and will be open every Sunday from 9am to 2pm. The market is located near the corner of Routes 520 and 79 in the preserved open space that was the Stattel Farm Market. Parking is at the top of the hill behind the market, with handicapped spaces at street level. Guidelines are in place to ensure the safety of vendors and shoppers and to protect the most vulnerable among us. Customers will be directed down the walkway as social distancing space permits. Vendors and shoppers must wear face coverings when shopping in the market and hand sanitizers will be at vendors’ booths. Only vendors will handle their product, no self-service will be permitted and no sampling of food is allowed. Please follow the @MarlboroFarmersMarket Facebook group. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - Decorate a Door – We are very pleased that the Governor announced that schools may hold in person graduations. Guidelines were released today and the schools will be in touch with their graduating families as plans are confirmed. We are proud of all our graduates; pre-school, grade school, middle school, high school and college. I am inviting residents who have a graduate of any age to decorate your front door, porch or lawn to celebrate this special life milestone so important to students and families. Take a picture of your decoration and your graduate and share to social media using the hashtag #marlborograduates and tagging your school.
- Drive In Dance Party – We are pleased to announce that we will soon be hosting a Drive-In-Dance-Party. Music for all generations will be played by Noble Productions who has generously donated their services. Residents remain in their cars, spaced to allow for social distancing with windows, trunks and tops open. Decorate your cars, bring light ups and have a dance party inside your car. Township drive in movies will be announced soon.
- These events will be free, but space will be limited. Registration notice will sent via email from the Township website and community pass so if you have not yet entered your email in the blue box on the Township home page, now is the time to do so to ensure you are among the first to know.
Finally, I want to thank the Veterans and Volunteers Committee chaired by Judy Kushner and Paul Lorenz for putting together a meaningful Memorial Day service in difficult times. Our deepest gratitude to Grand Marshal Louis Rodriguez, US Army 101st Airborne Division, for his inspiring words and his service to our country. The Memorial Day service is posted on our Facebook page and will soon be shown on Channel 77.
