Weekend Update – Groundhog Day Edition

Dear Resident,

All local groundhogs saw their shadow predicting an early spring.  Their accuracy is debatable, but nonetheless spring and summer planning is in full swing here in Marlboro.

Mark your calendars for Monday, February 5 at 7pm for Recreation Camp registration. Applications are being taken now for summer employment and registration for spring soccer and basketball is underway.  To ensure you are ready for camp registration, spring sports and classes please review the ‘Programs’ section below.

PUBLIC NOTICES

Message from the Tax Collector - First quarter property taxes must be received by Monday, February 12th to avoid interest. Note that interest charges on payments made after the grace period are calculated back to the February 1st due date. The Tax Collector’s office will have extended hours on Monday, February 12th from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm. A drop box is located in the vestibule of Town Hall and is available 24/7. All payments left in the drop box by 6:00 pm on February 12th will be credited that day and will not be subject to interest. Read the Tax Collector’s letter HERE.

2024 Recycling Calendar – The calendar has been mailed to all homes and is posted on the Township website and linked HERE

Brush Collection – Brush collection begins by Zone Monday, February 5.  We are still in the winter months and a storm can come at any time.  To keep our streets safe, we remind residents that brush should not be placed curbside more than one week prior to your scheduled pickup date and placed on your property, at the curb, not in the street. Summer Camp – Registration opens Monday, February 5 at 7pm for current K-6 grade students.  Take this time to ensure you Community Pass is up to date. Check user name and password, double check children’s information, and know the camper’s t-shirt size.  Recreation staff members will be on hand to assist the night of registration.  CAMP FLYER Camp Questions? Winter Rec Programs –Doggy Yoga, Magic, Chess, art and more. HERE.

Summer Jobs - Applications now being accepted for camp and swim club.  Youth classes programs to begin the end of January and classes for adults 60+ underway.  MORE.  

Marlboro Community Garden is accepting applications for the 2024 season. Please visit https://marlboro-nj.gov/community-garden .  Read the Policies and Rules, scroll down, complete the application and click ‘submit’.  The garden manager will contact you with the dates and times of orientation sessions for new participants.   

Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) – Do you have a Marlboro Teen looking for ways to give back and earn community service hours? Join TAC! Save the date for the TAC meeting on February 22 at 7:30pm.  To learn more about TAC, join and place your name on the email list visit HERE.

Coffee with a Firefighter – Robertsville Volunteer Fire Company presents coffee with a firefighter on Sunday, February 18 from 10am – noon.  FLYER

Pet Licensing Portal Open – Licensing your dogs and cats annually is required by state and town regulations.  The rabies vaccine must be current at the time of application.  On line and mail-in information HERE.

Tree Removal Permits Required – The Shade Tree Committee reminds residents that, in keeping with Marlboro Township’s goal of reducing indiscriminate tree removal, all property owners are required to obtain a Tree Removal Permit prior to performing any work.  All trees greater than 4” DBH (diameter at chest height) require a permit to be removed.  Property owners should verify their contractor is a licensed tree care operator or licensed tree expert by the State of New Jersey.  The Township’s tree replacement requirements can be found Chapter 337  HERE. The application for Tree Removal is on line Tree Removal Permit HERE.  Please contact Giovanna Marcello in the engineering department for assistance. 

Commuter Parking Renewals: The 2024-2025 commuter parking permit renewal period for Marlboro Township's commuter parking lots is now open. Renewals must be completed on-line via the Township’s SDL Portal, on or before March 31, 2024. Paper applications are no longer accepted. Manalapan Library Headquarters – The main branch is closed for renovations until May 2024.  Item pickup will be available from 10am-4m at the archive entrance off Alexandria Drive at the rear of the building.  The Marlboro branch is open and hours and programs, can be viewed at: https://monmouthcountylib.org/library-branches/marlboro/

Hometown Heroes Banner – Marlboro Veterans and Volunteers Committee announces Honor Hometown Hero banners.  Heroes can include past and resent Armed Forces personnel and First Responders.  FLYER

COVID-19 Ratepayer Measures provide relief to ratepayers experiencing economic hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The NJ Department of Community Affairs has developed a low income household water assistance program.  Please review the letter from the Marlboro Water Utility HERE.
