Winter Weather Advisory – Update #2

Dear Resident,

The National Weather Service (NWS) has officially extended a Winter Weather Advisory to Monmouth County. This formal Advisory means that we can expect one or more of the following conditions:

  • Snow of 3-5” in 12 hours
  • Sleet < ½”
  • Freezing rain with sleet/snow
  • Blowing snow

The current forecast calls for rain to begin tonight, changing over to snow Tuesday morning with expected snowfall and sleet accumulation between 2 and 4 inches. In addition, the NWS has also forecasted heavy winds for our area, with gusts up to 35 mph.

At this time, please plan accordingly for potentially hazardous travel conditions during the Tuesday morning commute. Untreated surfaces including sidewalks and driveways will likely be slippery. We also ask that you please remove all vehicles and obstructions such as basketball hoops from the roadways to ensure the safe and efficient passage of public works operators and public safety first responders.

Please review the ‘Surviving the Snow’ on pages 22 and 23 of the Recycling Calendar and linked HERE for tips, important numbers and websites.

As a reminder, in the event of power outages, report your outage by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877), clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.

We will continue to monitor updates to the forecast, and keep you posted as to any changes via email, social media channels and the Township website.

Stay safe,

Mayor Jon Hornik
